Waste Oil Rerefinery - UK

A redundant waste oil refinery in Stoke-on-Trent was re-engineered and refurbished to the latest and highest technical standards. The refinery now recycles 50,000 tonnes of waste oil to produce base oil for industrial and automotive lubricants. It is currently the only facility of its kind in the UK.

The plant utilises a 2 stage process to recover the base oil from the impurities and breakdown products.

The plant is operated under an IPPC licence from the Environment Agency, with emmissions to the atmosphere controlled by a comination of thermal oxidation, gas scrubbing and carbon adsorption.

Moulson prepared process flow diagrams, plant arrangement drawings, mass balances and process calculations. We also provided assisstance to carry out HAZOP, DSEAR  and ATEX studies, and provided the design specifications for all equipment, piping, civil, electrical and control requirements. Moulson also provided project management and procurement assistance and provided support during installation and commissioning.

Plant improvements are ongoing and Moulson are providing chemical engineering support to the plant.
